ONE DAY PER MONTH SERVICES REDUCTION CONTINUES
Friday, October 28 Reduced Services Day
Berkeley, California (Tuesday, October 25, 2005) - Berkeley’s City Council voted June 28, 2005 to continue a one day a month reduced services measure throughout the year to help balance the FY 2006 $8.9 million General Fund deficit. City offices will be closed the fourth Friday of each month leading up to November, when it will observe its Thanksgiving Day holiday. During December, certain City offices and services will be closed or curtailed during the week between December 26 and 30, 2005:

During this time, services located at the Martin Luther King, Jr., Civic Center Building (2180 Milvia), the Finance Customer Service Center (1947 Center), and the Permit Service Center (2120 Milvia) will not be available. Except for the last week in December, a " Drop Box" will be available between 8:00 a.m. and 5 p.m. in the lobby of 1947 Center Street to collect payments for citations, fees, and licenses, etc.

Public Works Transfer Station and Corporation Yard
Health Clinic at 830 University Street (Partial Services)
Other county and local governments such as San Jose, San Carlos, Palo Alto, and Stanislaus and Los Angeles Counties have adopted similar temporary measures to balance their budgets.
