CITY OF BERKELEY SERVICES REDUCTION CONTINUES
New Finance Customer Service Payment Options

Berkeley, California (Wednesday, December 21, 2005) - When the Berkeley City Council voted last June to adopt the City's budget, it also decided to continue a one-day per month reduced services measure throughout the fiscal year to help balance the General Fund deficit. As a result, City offices and services have been closed or curtailed during the last Friday of each month since July 2005. Exceptions to this schedule occurred during Thanksgiving weekend. During the month of December, certain City services and programs will be closed from December 26 through     January 2, 2006, (inclusive of holidays) and then February, when no reduced services are planned.

The actual reduced services dates are listed below:

December 27 through January 1, 2006 (Monday, December 26 and  Monday, January 2 are observed holidays)

Friday, January 27, 2006

(No reduced services day in February)

Friday, March 24, 2006

Friday, April 28, 2006

Friday, May 26, 2006

Friday, June 23, 2006

Reduced Services:

During this time, services located at the Martin Luther King, Jr., Civic Center Building (2180 Milvia) and the Permit Service Center (2120 Milvia) will not be available. The City has made already made arrangements to extend the citation payment periods to allow for the week-long closure during the month of December.

The Finance Customer Service Center (1947 Center) will be closed, however,  between December 27 and 30, the Berkeley Rent Board at 2125 Milvia Street will accept limited Finance Customer Service transactions:

                    Tuesday, Thursday and Friday: 9:00 a.m. to 4:45 p.m.

                    Wednesday: Noon to 6:30 p.m.

The Rent Board will accept check or money order payments for parking citations and City bills and customer claims for administrative review and meter checks.   Transactions will be processed on Tuesday, January 3, 2006.

Open and Available Services

The following services will be available during those days:

Police and Fire Departments

Senior Centers
