EXPANSION OF SOLAR PARKING METERS BEGINS
Pilot Parking Meter Program Proves Successful
Berkeley, California (Friday, January 06, 2006) - Phase One Pay-and-Display solar parking meters installed on Shattuck Avenue in April 2005 are performing well and show an increase in revenue. The Berkeley City Council determined the new parking control equipment to be in the best interest of the City and the drivers and to expand this reliable parking control equipment.
Phase Two of the Pay-and-Display pay program approved by Council in 2005 will begin the week of January 16 in North Shattuck between Vine and Rose; and Bancroft Way between Piedmont and Fulton. The City will begin replacing the 13 remaining multi-space Reino meters in North Shattuck and 163 Duncan single space meters on Bancroft with the same innovative Cale black and silver pay-and-display stations (ParkEZ Stations) located on Shattuck Avenue since April 2005.
With three convenient ways to pay, coins (nickels, dimes, quarters or dollar coins), credit card (Visa or Master Card), or debit card, there are three easy steps to follow. Just insert coins or your credit/debit card into appropriate slots for time desired. Press print to receive your dispensing machine ticket indicating how much time you purchased to park. Finally, peel off the back of the ticket and, using the sticky portion provided, affix the ticket to the interior side window of your vehicle facing the street so the expiration time and date are visible from the outside.
