BERKELEY CONTINUES REDUCED SERVICES
Budget Deficit Reducing Measures Work!
Berkeley, California (Monday, January 23, 2006) - The Berkeley City Council voted last June to adopt the City's budget and continue a one-day per month reduced services measure to help balance the General Fund deficit. As a result, the following City offices and services will be closed or curtailed during the fourth Friday of each month, except for February, 2006.
The reduced services dates are listed below:
Friday, January 27, 2006
(No reduced services day in February)
Friday, March 24, 2006
Friday, April 28, 2006
Friday, May 26, 2006
Friday, June 23, 2006
During this time, services located at the Martin Luther King, Jr., Civic Center Building (2180 Milvia), the Finance Customer Service Center (1947 Center), and the Permit Service Center (2120 Milvia) will not be available. Click here to view City service availability.
Open and Available Services
The following services will be available during those days:
Police and Fire Departments
Main and Branch Libraries
Public Works Transfer Station and Corporation Yard
Health Clinic at 830 University Street (Partial Services)
Other county and local governments have adopted similar temporary measures in years past to balance their budgets. Residents are advised to call ahead to determine whether the office providing a service desired will be open, (510) 981-CITY or 981-2489.
