CITY OF BERKELEY RELEASES NEW WINTER STORM READINESS TIPS
80 City Workers and Adopt-a-Drain Volunteers Hit the Streets Saturday for Neighborhood Drain Cleanup

Berkeley, California (Thursday, October 26, 2006) - undefined Clear skies are expected Saturday, Oct. 28 as 80 Berkeley City workers and volunteers from the “Adopt-a-Drain” program fan out across Berkeley to remove leaves and debris in neighborhoods prone to winter floods.

But the good weather is not expected to last long with the start of the 2006-2007 winter storm season right around the corner.

Saturday’s “All Storm Day” mobilization effort comes as the City releases a new tip sheet for residents to help neighborhoods prepare for winter storms.

Getting Ready for Winter Storms 2006-2007 is being mailed to community groups throughout the city and is now available on the Department of Public Works website. (Get the tip sheet by going to www.ci.berkeley.ca.us/pw and following the link to “Tips to prepare your neighborhood.”)

 The informative sheet includes tips to help neighborhoods get ready for the rain, including:

A reminder that observing street sweeping signs is even more important during storm season;

How to get free leaf bags from the City’s Corporation Yard;

How to become an “Adopt-a-Drain” volunteer to support the City’s efforts in your neighborhood;

How to report illegal dumping which clogs storm drains and pollutes the Bay;

How residents in especially flood prone areas can get free sandbags from the Corporation Yard.
