CITY OF BERKELEY CELEBRATES BLACK HISTORY MONTH
Community Invited to Participate in the Celebration

Berkeley, California (Wednesday, February 14, 2007) - The City of Berkeley is celebrating Black History Month at three of its recreation facilities and the community is invited to participate in the celebration.

Thursday, February 22, 6:00-8:00 P.M. at Martin Luther King Jr. Youth Services Center/YAP, 1730 Oregon St. - The Young Adult Project (YAP) will feature syndicated columnist Byron C. Williams focusing on "Preserving the Past and Embracing the Future" and presentation of community awards. Entertainment will also be provided.

 

Thursday, February 22, 6:30-8:30 P.M. at the Frances Albrier Community Center, 2800 Park St. - The Frances Albrier Community Center and San Pablo Park Neighborhood Council’s presentation will focus on “Sankofa” which means, “one must go back and reclaim the past to move forward.” 

 

Tuesday, February 27, 6:30-8:30 P.M. at the James Kenney Recreation Center, 1720 8th St. - The James Kenney Recreation Center will present a historical play, rap, poetry, music, and singing for their celebration.

The Black History Programs are being dedicated to Theodore Roosevelt Scates, Recreation Coordinator for YAP, who recently passed away after a long illness.
