CITY OF BERKELEY INCREASES PARKING METER RATES
Berkeley, California (Monday, March 05, 2007) - On January 16, 2007, the Berkeley City Council approved an amendment to the Municipal Code to change the parking meter rate throughout the City from $.75 per hour to $1.00 per hour, effective March 5, 2007.
City staff members have been working to convert the Pay and Display machines and the single space parking meters to the new rate. The Pay and Display machines in the Downtown, North Shattuck, and campus (Bancroft) areas were converted first, along with numerous single space meters in the Downtown area. Work crews will convert the remaining single space meters over the next several weeks.
In addition to the rate conversion, Pay and Display machines will replace single space meters in two of the City's off-street parking lots: the Berkeley Way Lot and the Elmwood Lot. Longer term parking is encouraged in the off-street parking facilities. There is a 4-hour time limit in the Berkeley Way Lot and a 2-hour limit in the Elmwood Lot.
