"PERSON, PLACE, AND THING" ART EXHIBITION
Addison Street Windows Gallery from March 9 - April 15, 2007
Berkeley, California (Friday, March 16, 2007) - The City of Berkeley's Public Art Program is pleased to announce an exhibition of oil paintings entitled "Person, Place and Thing" at the Addison Street Windows Gallery on 2018 Addison Street in Berkeley, CA. The show runs from March 9 through April 15. This exhibition features three Bay area painters, Susan Kendall, Renie McDonough, and Pam Wright, whose canvases are usually painted "en plein air," a French expression which means “in the open air.”
Susan Kendall conveys a sense of cheer and whimsy with her bright colors and by painting "alla prima" with thick brush strokes. "Alla prima," also known as direct painting, is an ancient technique by which the artist applies each stroke of paint as part of the final statement. The painter does not retouch or over paint.
Renie McDonough paints landscapes, creating a sense of harmony with her fine brush strokes, blending her colors with a palette knife. Her jewel color tones and quiet rhythmic line create a sensual landscape.
Pam Wright paints with energetic movement, filling the canvas with her unique modern perspective on the world. Wright colors the canvas with black acrylic before painting with oil, creating a color vibration in her work. Wright mentions Kandinsky and Pamela Glover from the "Outsiders" as her influences. Her signature is a telephone pole in her landscapes.
The Addison Street Windows Gallery is a project of the Civic Arts Program of the City of Berkeley in cooperation with the Civic Arts Commission.
