AUTO - PEDESTRIAN COLLISION FATALITY

Berkeley, California (Monday, June 04, 2007) - An elderly woman is the victim of a fatal auto-pedestrian collision that is being investigated by the City of Berkeley Police Department (BPD). The collision occurred at approximately 10:50 p.m. Sunday night near the intersection of Solano Ave and Fresno St. Witnesses reported the woman was crossing the street near the intersection when she was struck by a passing motorist.
Berkeley Fire Department and Berkeley Police officers arrived on the scene within minutes. The victim was immediately taken to a local hospital where she was later pronounced deceased. Authorities are not releasing her identity pending the notification of next of kin.
The suspect, 56-year-old Guillermo Robles, is a retired member of the Berkeley Police Department. He was detained at the scene and given a series of field sobriety tests. He was placed under arrest for suspected vehicular manslaughter and investigation of driving under the influence (DUI). He was booked at Santa Rita jail, and bail has been set at $30,000.
