FIREFIGHTERS HONORED FOR THEIR HEROISM
At a ceremony on Thursday, Berkeley Firefighters will be honored for their heroism and for their promotions
Berkeley, California (Tuesday, February 19, 2008) - On Thursday afternoon, the Berkeley Fire Department will hold a Badge Pinning Ceremony for ten recently promoted firefighters

Those firefighters who have been promoted and will be recognized are:
§ Deputy Fire Chief Gilbert K. Dong, Jr.
§ Assistant Fire Chief Donna McCracken
§ Captain Rick Guzman
§ Lieutenant Robert Humphrey
§ Lieutenant John Tarascio
§ Lieutenant Jeff Morino
§ Apparatus Operator Peter Ciancuilli
§ Apparatus Operator David Sprague
§ Apparatus Operator Kevin VanderEnde
§ Paramedic Supervisor David Brannigan
“The promotion of ten firefighters at one time is unusual,” said Chief Debra Pryor, “and shows both the quality and dedication of our department’s internal firefighting family.”
Pryor also noted that the Chief promotions reflect the City’s ongoing commitment to diversity. Deputy Chief Gilbert K. Dong, Jr. is the first Asian American Deputy Fire Chief, and Assistant Fire Chief Donna McCracken is the first female Fire Marshal.
Several members of the department will also receive service awards for their heroism or work performed in the past year.
Berkeley firefighters saved Walker Dupuy from his home on Blake Street, on March 6, 2007. Captain Les Putnam, AO Cliff Broom, AO Pete Reed, Paramedics Chris Van Luen, Dan Green, Brian Alexander, and Paramedic Intern Zach Jenson (now a firefighter with the Richmond Fire Department), will also be honored.
