BERKELEY POLICE INVESTIGATE EARLY MORNING DOUBLE HOMICIDE
Berkeley, California (Thursday, September 18, 2008) - At 12:15 AM on September 18, 2008, Berkeley Police Dispatch received multiple calls of multiple shots fired from residents in the area of Sacramento and Derby Streets in south Berkeley. Officers responded to the 1400 block of Derby St. where they found a 45-year-old, African-American male victim with apparent gunshot wounds lying against the curb at mid block.
Dispatch received an additional call concerning a traffic collision on the 1500 block of Derby St. Responding officers found a second victim, a 26-year-old, African-American male who had succumbed to apparent gunshot wounds after the vehicle he was driving collided with a parked car on the south side of Derby St.
The Berkeley Fire Department responded to both scenes, and both victims were pronounced dead.
Both victims have been identified but names have not been released pending notification of their next of kin. The 26-year-old victim is a Berkeley resident and the 45-year-old victim is an Oakland resident.
