GET YOUR GLOVES ON FOR ALL STORM DAY
Residents invited to join City staff and Cal students to prepare for winter
Berkeley, California (Thursday, October 16, 2008) - Saturday is going to be perfect fall day-- a perfect fall day for clearing out storm drains!
Saturday is All Storm Day: the day Public Works staff and volunteers pitch in to clean the drains that are likely to back up in storms. It really is a good time to meet up with neighbors, students and City staff, and clear out problem storm drains so they don't flood Berkeley neighborhoods when the rain comes.
Clearing the storm drains of summer debris also helps that trash from ending up in the Bay.
“The work done on All Storm Day helps Berkeley in two major ways,” said Public Works Director Claudette Ford. “One, we reduce the chances of flooding in our neighborhoods and two, we keep garbage out of the San Francisco Bay.”
WHAT: Residents can also help protect the Bay and their neighborhood from winter storms by volunteering
WHEN: Saturday, October 18, 2008 9 a.m. - 1 p.m.
WHERE: There are four "staging" areas around town. Call to sign up now, and we will make every effort to put you to work near your house.
HOW: Contact Shallon Allen at (510) 981-7071 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
We'll also be supplying breakfast pastries and lunch at each staging location.
There are other steps you and your neighbors can take to help prevent flooding in Berkeley and prevent trash from ending up in San Francisco Bay.
Adopt a Drain: The City can help individuals, families or neighborhood groups learn how to safely clean a storm drain, before, during and after storms.
