PATROL OFFICERS TAKE SEXUAL PREDATOR OFF THE STREETS
Berkeley, California (Tuesday, February 17, 2009) - On Thursday, February 12, 2009 City of Berkeley Police Officers responded to a report of a prowler who was peering into a residence on the 2000 block of Parker Street. One of the victims discovered the prowler using a ladder to peep into his girlfriend’s second floor apartment window. The victim then chased the suspect on foot to a house on the 1900 block of Parker St. where he lost sight of him.
Responding officers sealed off the block and began a systematic search of this central Berkeley neighborhood. Following information provided by community members the suspect was found cowering behind a rear porch pillar on the 1900 block of Parker Street and taken into custody without incident.
Officers arrested homeless, James Beldin 46. Beldin was wanted for a sexual assault case, which occurred on 2-09-09 in Berkeley; merely one week after Beldin had been released from State Prison.
During the course of the investigation by Patrol Officers, it became clear that Beldin was responsible for at least three other similar crimes in neighboring cities. Berkeley Police Detectives are working with those outside agencies to determine the extent of those crimes.
Beldin was booked for Peeping, Prowling, Burglary, Sexual Battery and a Parole Violation.BPD Homepage
