FACE TO FACE
Reflections and Creative Expressions of Xochitl Nevel Guerrero & Roberto Guerrero

Berkeley, California (Wednesday, July 14, 2010) - Longtime artistic collaborators and partners Xochitl Nevel Guerrero and Roberto Guerrero celebrate 30 years of living, learning and creating art together by showcasing mixed media work at the Addison Street Windows Gallery from July 19 to August 27.

The Addison Street Windows Gallery can be found at 2018 Addison Street, Berkeley.

Xochitl was raised Oakland’s Fruitvale District where her father, Zala Nevel, was renowned for his prolific mural making depicting scenes from the history of Mexican people and their ancient Indian roots. Xochitl picked up on that family tradition, and she and her husband Roberto have created numerous murals throughout the East Bay, mostly focusing on the struggles and spirituality of Chicano people and other peoples of color. They have also collaborated with several local artists and neighborhood youth on public walls to engage the community in a socializing and healing art making process.

Xochitl and Roberto are equally recognized for their ceramic mask making and portraiture, and have led several community workshops over the years, including working with Taller Sin Fronteras (Workshop Without Borders), a Third World visual arts collective based in East Oakland.

Exhibits in the Addison Street Windows Gallery, located on Addison Street between Milvia and Shattuck Avenue in Berkeley’s downtown Arts District, can be viewed 24 hours a day from the sidewalk, are free and wheelchair accessible. Sponsored by the Civic Arts Program of the City of Berkeley, in cooperation with the Civic Arts Commission.
