MARTIN LUTHER KING CIVIC CENTER ART SHOW ON ALL FIVE FLOORS IN THE PUBLIC AREAS
Berkeley, California (Tuesday, November 16, 2010) - The Civic Arts Commission announces a new Civic Center Art Show for 2010-2011. Staff and the commission are partnering with the Berkeley Art Center and Kala Art Institute to assist with the process. Each artist selected for the new competition will receive a stipend of $125. This is part of the process of constantly seeking ways, large and small, to bring funding and recognition to Berkeley artists.
This was the first year that the competition application was in a digital format. The Call for Artists explained the new application process. A help telephone line was in place to help those new to digital applications. Anyone who could not use the new digital process was able to submit a CD of their art work.
On November 4, 2010, the Selection Panel met at Kala Art Institute and chose 32 artists. Members of this panel were:
Robbin Henderson, Civic Arts Commission; Nils Moe, Mayor's Office; Carmella Rejwan, City of Berkeley Architect; Felicia Graham (representing city staff), Office of Economic Development; Suzanne Tan, Berkeley Art Center; Archana Horsting, Kala Art Institute.
The estimated time line is:
Notification to artists: mid-November 2010
Delivery of Accepted Artwork: early December 2010
Celebration Ceremony: Spring 2011
This is a project of the City of Berkeley Public Art Program.
