OPEN CALL FOR ARTISTS: PUBLIC ART FOR SOUTH AND WEST BRANCH PUBLIC LIBRARIES
Berkeley, California (Wednesday, July 27, 2011) - The Berkeley Public Library in conjunction with the Berkeley Civic Arts Commission and the Bay Area Visual Arts Network (BAYVAN) is pleased to announce the Call for Artists for public artworks for the planned new South Branch Library and West Branch Library buildings.
PROPOSALS ARE DUE NO LATER THAN TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 6, 2011 AT 4:00 PM.
This opportunity is open to artists who live or work in Alameda and Contra Costa Counties. Artwork must be original and functional as part of the building structure or systems. Specific examples include custom glass panels, metalwork, terrazzo or ceramic tile finishes. Freestanding artworks that are not a functional, or structural component of the building, such as two dimensional art intended to be wall mounted, or three dimensional sculptures not integral to the building structure or systems, will not be considered. Only one commission will be awarded to an artist or artist team, for either branch.
