Berkeley, California (Tuesday, August 23, 2011) - On Thursday, August 25th, members of the City of Berkeley Police Department (BPD) are once again participating in Tip-a-Cop. Tip-a Cop is another in a series of fundraisers for Special Olympics of Northern California. The event is being held at Skates on the Bay in the Berkeley Marina from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

Tip a copBPD personnel, including Chief Michael K. Meehan, will be supporting the wait staff at the restaurant to earn “tips” that will directly benefit the athletes of Special Olympics.

Skates on the Bay has supported BPD for nearly a decade with this entertaining fundraiser. Last year, the collaboration raised $5,300 at the
Tip-a-Cop 2010.

So far this year, BPD’s participation in Special Olympics fundraising has resulted in $17,305 of donations during their May Trampoline Dip! Duck! Dive! Dodge Ball Team Tournament, the June Torch Run and the July BPD conceived “Tutu Ride.” 

The women and men of BPD demonstrate another form of special service to the community during these events and the community is generous in giving.
