Shooting Death of Devin Whitmire
Berkeley, California (Tuesday, April 03, 2012) - Berkeley, California (Tuesday, April 3, 2012) – The City of Berkeley is offering a $15,000 reward, and Bay Area Crime Stoppers (BACS) is offering an additional $2,000 reward, for information leading to the arrest and conviction of all responsible suspects for the City of Berkeley’s third homicide of 2012.
On Thursday, March 29, 2012 at about 7:34 p.m., the City of Berkeley Police Department (BPD) received calls from community members reporting gunshots in the area of Oregon and Sacramento Streets. Officers found Devin Lee Whitmire, a 24 year old Vallejo resident, had been shot. Whitmire was lying in the roadway on Oregon Street west of Sacramento Street. City of Berkeley Fire Department (BFD) paramedics transported Whitmire to a local hospital’s trauma center where he was pronounced dead.
BPD Homicide detectives and other personnel began the investigation immediately and arrested one suspect, Randall Oscar Alston, a 19 year old Berkeley resident. The crime is being investigated as a homicide. Investigators believe there are additional suspects in this case.

If a community member wishes to remain anonymous, he/she is encouraged to call the Bay Area Crimes Stoppers (BACS) at (800)-222-TIPS (8477). Any information may be critical to solving this crime. Sometimes the smallest or seemingly insignificant detail can be the key to arresting the suspect or suspects in any crime.
