BERKELEY BAY TRAIL EXTENSION PROJECT: PHASE ONE
Berkeley, California (Thursday, July 12, 2012) - The Berkeley community is invited to attend a groundbreaking ceremony for the Berkeley Bay Trail Extension Project - Phase One. The Bay Trail Extension will provide a safer, more convenient and ADA-accessible connection from the Bike Bridge and the Bay Trail to the Berkeley Marina. It includes a Class 1 multi-use trail and a footbridge over the Strawberry culvert, south of University Avenue. The first segment of the trail goes through Eastshore State Park and ends at the parking lot by the South Sailing Cove. When fully built, the trail will continue in front of Cal Sailing and Cal Adventures, through Shorebird Park to Hs. Lordship's Restaurant, and then will run along the water's edge at Seawall Drive and end at the Berkeley Yacht Club.
Funding for design and construction of the Bay Trail Extension was provided by the City of Berkeley, federal transportation funds (STIP-TE), and grants from the State Coastal Conservancy and the Association of Bay Area Governments (ABAG).
