WILLARD TENNIS COURTS RE-OPEN
Berkeley, California (Friday, May 16, 2014) - The Berkeley community is invited to attend the re-opening of the Willard Park Tennis Courts, one of the many facilities and resources offered by the City of Berkeley's recreation division.
The re-opening, at 4 p.m. on Wednesday May 21, 2014, will include a ribbon cutting, speakers, and a demonstration tennis match by Berkeley National Junior Tennis League. The park is at 2730 Hillegass Avenue at Derby Street.
The main neighborhood park in Southeast Berkeley, Willard Park includes a large grassy area in addition to a clubhouse, tot lot and tennis courts.The renovation project involved re-surfacing the two tennis courts and replacement of the fencing around the courts. Funding provided by City of Berkeley, Capital Improvements Funds and Parks Tax.
The Department of Parks, Recreation & Waterfront, Parks Division manages 52 City parks, which includes five community centers, two pools, 13 sport fields, 36 picnic areas, 63 play areas, and 49 sport courts. The sport courts include 24 tennis courts.
