BPD: CAR STOP YIELDS LOADED CONCEALED FIREARM

Berkeley, California (Tuesday, March 21, 2017) - Gun under matt Millenium pistol

On 3/17/2017 at approximately 5:59pm, a Berkeley Police Officer and his Recruit observed a vehicle being driven without license plates on 9th Street near Gilman Street.  The Officers initiated a traffic stop for the vehicle code violation and contacted the car's occupants.  The driver, identified as Kenneth Brown 20, of Berkeley, was found to be driving the car without a driver's license.  The passenger did not have a valid driver's license either.

When one of the officers asked Brown to step out of the vehicle, he saw a partially concealed handgun sticking out from underneath the driver's side floor matt.  Both the driver and passenger were immediately handcuffed and the handgun secured.  An inspection of the gun revealed that it was loaded and unregistered.

Brown was arrested for possession of a loaded, concealed, and unregistered firearm and cited for the vehicle code infractions.

The Berkeley Police Department takes great pride in its ongoing efforts to take illegal firearms off the streets and help make our community a safer place.
