Bateman Mall Park was built with Measure Y funds after voters passed a bond measure in 1974 to fund additional park development. These funds were supplemented with a State Land and Water Conservation (LWCF) grant. A resolution was passed by the Parks and Recreation Commission on January 23, 1984, designating the park “Dedicated to Julie Gordon Shearer,” a neighborhood activist instrumental in the creation of the park. Bateman Mall Park was completed in mid-1984.
