Current UC Berkeley construction projects underway located near the campus periphery include:
Student Athlete High Performance Center
The new Student-Athlete Center will provide a training facility for all Cal student athletes and a home for 13 of Cal’s intercollegiate athletic teams. The building includes locker and meeting rooms, office areas, training facilities and academic space. The Center will also house an applied sports science, nutrition and medicine complex.
Berkeley Law South Addition
The South Addition, being built near Bancroft Way on the south side of the School of Law, will create a new home for the Law Library in two stories of underground space and add a new classroom, cafe and study space at ground level. A renovated courtyard and rooftop garden will create a green and vibrant entrance to the Berkeley Law complex. Construction is scheduled to be complete in Spring 2011.
Naval Architecture Building Restoration
This project will renovate, expand, and seismically upgrade the Naval Architecture Building, a simple wood-shingled building listed on the National Register of Historic Places that was built in 1914 and designed by John Galen Howard. A new wing will be constructed on the west side of the original structure. Construction is scheduled to be completed in Fall 2010.
Clark Kerr Campus Renewal
The UC Berkeley Clark Kerr Campus residential buildings and utility systems are being renewed and renovated to better meet the modern needs of our students. The phased project work includes upgrades to the water, electrical, communication and sewer systems and exterior lighting; improvements to disabled access and pedestrian safety; and installation of fire sprinklers and upgrades of existing fire alarm systems. Construction is scheduled to continue through summer 2010.
These projects are being implemented in accordance with UC Berkeley green building practices. Campus project teams will adhere to regulations concerning safety, noise and dust. Hours of construction are scheduled to be 7am – 4pm Monday to Friday; any weekend work would not begin until 9am. Construction vehicles will follow routes that have been established between the City of Berkeley and project team and are designed with the safety of everyone working and traveling in the area in mind. Information about any changes or temporary interruptions in the area will be shared in advance as much as it possible; please respect the direction given by flaggers and any temporary barricades.
