Special Victims Unit
Sergeant Kevin Reece supervises five (5) Detectives, the Berkeley High School (BHS) School Resource Officer (SRO) , Youth Advocate, a part time Reserve Officer and Domestic Violence Advocate who is employed by the Family Violence Law Center. The unit is comprised of the Youth Services Detail, Sex Crimes Detail and the Domestic Violence Unit.
Detectives of the Youth Services Detail (YSD) investigate crimes against youth/juveniles such as abuse and sexual assault. They support victims through the difficult processes, referring them to additional aid when needed. Detectives, the SRO and Youth Advocate also mentor and work with young offenders, counseling, assisting or referring them special services as needed.

The Sex Crimes Detail is responsible for the investigation and follow-up of reports involving sexual assaults/rape, sexual battery, stalking, indecent exposure, harassing phone calls, peeping /prowling incidents as well as monitoring and investigating the legal compliance of sex registrants (290 PC) To check for sex registrants in your area - follow this link - Megan's Law. The Domestic Violence Prevention Unit investigates cases involving abuse between intimate partners and restraining order violations. The Advocate supports the efforts by providing victims of domestic violence with support, guidance in the courts and other related assistance. This unit investigates over 450 cases per year.
