Delayed Registration Procedures
If a California was not registered within a year, you can register the event using a Delayed Registration of Birth or Death Form.
The following procedures need to be followed in order to correctly register a Delayed Birth or Death:
If the child/person is less than one year old, the registration process may be done through us, by appointment (just click here and request an appointment date)
If the child/person is over one year old, you MUST file an Application for Delayed Registration of Birth/Death with the California State Registrar in Sacramento. The process requires you to have documented evidence of the event, in order to be accepted by the State. Otherwise you must follow the court process to get a court order authorizing you to register it.
