SIGNATURES IN-LIEU OF FILING FEE PERIOD FOR WRITE-IN CANDIDATES IS CURRENTLY OPEN
Berkeley, California (Monday, August 25, 2008) - A write-in candidate running for local office in the City of Berkeley is required to pay a filing fee of $150 at the time the write-in candidate takes out his/her nomination papers. In lieu of paying a portion or the entire filing fee, a write-in candidate may obtain signatures of support from up to 150 Berkeley registered voters. Each valid signature will reduce the filing fee by $1.
The signature in-lieu of filing fee period for write-in candidates is currently open. Petition forms must be obtained from the City Clerk, 2180 Milvia Street, Berkeley. Petition forms must be filed with the City Clerk no later than Monday, October 6, 2008.
The nomination period for write-in candidates opens on Monday, September 8, 2008 and closes Tuesday, October 21, 2008. Nomination papers must be obtained from the City Clerk.
