REGIONAL SPORTS FIELDS AT GILMAN STREET GRAND OPENING
Residents, City Officials and Sports Enthusiasts to Celebrate Five New Fields
Berkeley, California (Friday, August 29, 2008) - Residents from all over the East Bay will celebrate the opening of the Regional Sports Fields at Gilman Street on Saturday, September 6. They will be joined by elected officials and other community leaders to officially open the state-of-the-art facility, which is the result of a joint effort between the East Bay Regional Park District (EBRPD) and the five East Bay cities of Albany, Berkeley, El Cerrito, Emeryville and Richmond.
The five cities came together to address the challenge of a shortage of sports fields in the region. The complex includes conservation features and is intended to serve soccer, rugby, lacrosse and other teams from around the region.
What: Grand opening ceremony for the new regional sports fields at Gilman Street
When: Saturday, September 6, 2008
Where: 400 Gilman Street, Berkeley-- The ribbon-cutting ceremony will take place on the north synthetic turf field at the facility, and will be followed by scheduled sports league games.
DIRECTIONS: From I-80 westbound in Berkeley, take the Gilman Street exit. At the stop sign, turn right onto Gilman Street towards the Bay. Enter the sports complex on the left. From I-80 eastbound in Berkeley, take the Gilman Street exit. Turn left at the stop sign onto Gilman Street towards the Bay. Enter the sports complex on the left. Additional parking will be at the end of Gilman Street on right hand side under the tree lane.
