COMMUNITY CRIME ALERT - “WINDOW SMASH” RESIDENTIAL BURGLARY SERIES
Berkeley, California (Monday, December 15, 2008) - City of Berkeley Police Department (BPD) Property Crimes Detectives are warning the community after seven actual and one attempted residential “window smash” burglaries were reported over the last 10 days. Detectives are attributing the burglaries, all of which have occurred between 8am-3pm in northwest and north central Berkeley, to the same suspects.
A community member observed the following person and vehicle of interest in the vicinity of one of the incidents:
White female, 30-36 years old, “weathered”, 5’06”, long straight black or dark brown hair last seen wearing a trench coat.
Grey, GMC style van with a bicycle rack on the back.
BPD would like to remind community members of the following crime prevention measures:
Be alert/aware of activity around your home & neighborhood.
Be sure to lock all your windows and doors.
Do not allow anyone in your home that you do not know, have not hired or screened.
Call BPD to report any suspicious people or activity, in particular anyone that matches the general description as noted above.
If you have an older neighbor or neighbors, get to know them and please give attention to any unusual activity in or around their home(s).
