2007 FIRE FUEL CHIPPER AND DEBRIS BIN PROGRAMS
For Residents of the Berkeley Hills High-Risk Fire Area
Berkeley, California (Thursday, May 31, 2007) - The Berkeley Fire Department has noticed that grasses and other vegetation have grown more quickly and are drying out earlier than usual this year. Since all vegetation is fuel for a wildfire, it is important to minimize the amount of vegetation near your home. The Fire Department recommends that residents of the Berkeley Hills high-risk fire area take advantage of the Fire Fuel Chipper and Debris Bin Programs that begin on 6/4/07 and last through 9/21/07.
City crews will make two passes through each Hills neighborhood chipping branches and collecting vegetation placed on the side of the roadway. Information as to dates and locations for the scheduled chipper/pickup, and instructions for stacking branches and vegetation, is available by calling 981-6660.
In addition, debris bins for vegetation will be provided in the high-risk fire area from June 4 to September 21, 2007. A limited number of debris bins are available each week. To reserve a debris bin, call the Solid Waste Division of the Public Works Department at 981-7270 between 8am-5pm.
