URGENT CALL FOR WATER CONSERVATION
Berkeley, California (Thursday, December 07, 2006) - The City of Berkeley is helping the East Bay Municipal Utility District (EBMUD) get the word out about water conservation measures in place for our community during the seismic strengthening of the district's Claremont Tunnel.
For the week of December 4-11, EBMUD has set its water conservation alert status to ORANGE ("Urgent"). This means current demand on the system is too high and mandatory rationing rules could be triggered by abnormally warm weather or operational problems.
Residents are urged to take immediate steps to reduce water demand, including shutting off sprinkler systems, restricting washing cars and driveways, and checking for household leaks.
For additional water conservation tips, money saving rebates, information on the earthquake repairs and current alert status (updated Mondays), go to: http://www.ebmud.com/current_events/water_conservation_during_seismic_repair/default.htm
Thank you for doing your part to conserve water.
