CELEBRATING GOOD HEALTH IN BERKELEY-CELEBRANDO BUENA SALUD EN BERKELEY
Health Fair on October 15, 2006 - Feria de Salud en Domingo el 15 de Octubre, 2006
Berkeley, California (Thursday, October 12, 2006) - The City of Berkeley, Division of Public Health, as part of Latino Health Month and Binational Health Week, invites the community to a Health Fair on Sunday October 15, 2006 from Noon to 5:00 p.m., at St. Joseph the Worker School and Church, 2125 Jefferson Street in Berkeley. The fair culminates a month-long series of events focusing on increasing access to public health services, promoting healthy environments, behaviors and promoting public policies which strive to improve upon the health disparities in minority communities, and more specifically, the Latino and/or immigrant populations.
In addition to many information and referral services available at the fair, there will be vision screenings by the UC Berkeley Eye Center, American Red Cross disaster preparation workshops, flu shots for $20 by the Visiting Nurses Association from 10:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m., and Salsa and Hip Hop lessons and performances by Grupo Folklorico Reflejos de Mexico. DJ Jose Ruiz will provide music throughout the afternoon. Also, the Division of Public Health, in its efforts to reduce exposure to second-hand smoke, especially among children, will feature the "Take it Outside" project at the fair. Staff will be present at the fair to provide extensive information and activities on this very important topic.
