'NATURE, FOR INSTANCE' ART EXHIBITION
Addison Street Windows Gallery September 6 – October 16, 2006
Berkeley, California (Monday, September 18, 2006) - The City of Berkeley is pleased to announce the exhibition, “Nature, For Instance” at the Addison Street Windows Gallery that will be on display through October 16th, 2006. This art exhibit showcases five artists whose works reflect the contemplation of nature. As a Berkeley drawing collective, the artists explore the process of art making as well as themes of landscape, transition, and nature as physical and mental sustenance.
The handmade paper images of I Ching hexagrams from the ancient Chinese "I Ching," or Book of Changes, by Carol Brighton, monotypes by Debra Jewell, sculpture by Jean Pfann and paintings by Sylvia Sussman and Christine Walter examine the complexities of life through metaphors of change in the physical landscape. Although each artist is well established in his or her medium and conveys individual interpretations of nature, the strength of this show stems from each artist embracing work that reflects a collective influence based upon shared experience and mutual encouragement.
The exhibition is wheelchair accessible and can be viewed 24-hours a day. For more information about the exhibition and the Addison Street Windows Gallery please visit the Civic Arts web page, or contact Mary Ann Merker, Civic Arts Coordinator at (510) 981-7533.
