BERKELEY FIRE DEPARTMENT LAUNCHES 2006 YOUTH ACADEMY
Fifth Annual Academy for Youth Aged 14-19
Berkeley, California (Thursday, February 16, 2006) - Berkeley Fire Department is hosting its fifth annual Youth Academy for youth aged 14-19. The goal is to expose Berkeley teens to the possibility of a career in the fire service.
The Academy is taught by Berkeley firefighters, many of whom volunteer their time to participate in the training and hands-on activities. During the six-week Academy, participants become familiar with fire fighting equipment, participate in fire fighting training activities, and obtain a certification in community CPR and first aid. This year, due to the popularity of the program, Berkeley Fire Department is offering two six-week sessions.
The 2006 Youth Academy begins Saturday, April 1. To apply, students must complete an application that can be picked up at the Berkeley Fire Department Administrative Office, 2100 Martin Luther King Jr. Way, 2nd floor. Completed applications are due no later than Friday, March 17.
