APPLICANTS SOUGHT FOR BERKELEY'S COMMISSIONS AND BOARDS
Over 350 Residents Advise City Council
Berkeley, California (Wednesday, October 12, 2005) - The City of Berkeley is seeking applicants interested in serving on its Boards and Commissions. The City has over 40 Boards and Commissions on which more than 350 citizens serve as members. Currently, several commissions have vacancies. If you are interested in serving on a Board or Commission, please submit an application to the City Clerk, 2180 Milvia Street, Berkeley, CA 94704. Members of Boards and Commissions provide an invaluable service to our City. They advise the City Council on a wide variety of subjects by making recommendations on important policy matters. The detailed studies and considered advice of boards and commissions are often catalysts for innovative programs and improved services.
Serving on a Board or Commission can be a rewarding experience for community service minded residents. It is an excellent way to participate in the functioning of local government and to make a personal contribution to the improvement of our community. Commissioners are appointed by individual councilmembers for terms of one year. Commission meetings are generally held once a month during evening hours. Commission appointments are non-paid positions. Commissioners will be required to file state and local mandated Conflict of Interest Statements.
