Berkeley, California (Friday, September 11, 2009) - The City of Berkeley is pleased to present an exhibition of images about music by Berkeley artist Dean Hunsaker, in the lobby gallery of 1947 Center Street, from September 8-December 8. The lobby gallery is open during regular business hours and is wheelchair accessible.

This body of work includes images of music that navigate the border between abstraction and representation. Apart from the imagery there is a focus on the surface quality of the paintings. These textured surfaces embody a variety of painting techniques, such as brushwork, dripping, sanding, scraping and splattering. Add to this a mix of music iconography that appears, disappears, and fragments across the heavily textured backgrounds. To withstand the physical stress of these techniques the majority of them are rendered on high quality hardwood panels.

The 1947 Center Street Gallery is a public space located in the lobby of the 1930s era building at 1947 Center Street, between Milvia Street and Martin Luther King Street. This gallery space in a City of Berkeley building and is part of the Civic Arts, Public Art Program.
