POLICE TEAM-UP WITH MARINES TO SUPPORT TOYS FOR TOTS
Berkeley, California (Thursday, November 19, 2009) - The Berkeley Police Department (BPD) will again be teaming up with the U.S. Marine Corps Foundation Toys for Tots program this year. As in years past, toys will be distributed to Berkeley children who would not otherwise receive toys during the holidays. The department expects to distribute about 3000 new toys.
The program's goal is to deliver through a new toy at Christmas, a message of hope to less fortunate youngsters and to support them in becoming responsible, productive, community members and leaders.
The program is open to all Berkeley families who pre-register through Eden I & R Inc., by simply dialing 2-1-1, or toll free at (866) 886-9660. Registrations must occur through Eden I & R Inc.; registrations are not accepted at or through the Berkeley Police Department. The following restrictions for eligibility apply:
- Applicants must prove Berkeley residency with a utility bill (in the same name and address
- Must have photo identification
- Applicants must have a Client Code Number (assigned at the time the application is made over the phone)
- Applicants must show up for the distribution - no substitutions
Qualifying families can register any time after November 4, 2009 at Eden I & R. Registration will end at 4:00 pm on Wednesday, December 16, 2009. Toys will be distributed to registered families on Saturday, December 19, 2009 at the Ronald Tsukamoto Public safety Building, 2100 Martin Luther King Jr. Way between 8:00 am and 11:00 am.
Community members who would like to support this worthy cause are invited to drop off new, unwrapped toys at any of the City of Berkeley Fire Stations, and at the Ronald Tsukamoto Public Safety Building lobby, 2100 Martin Luther King Jr. Way.
