Contractors, their subcontractors and ultimately, property owners are required to keep concrete, plaster, paint, dirt and other harmful substances out of storm drains, out of creeks and out of the Bay.
The information below, along with information that may be found on your approved set of plans which are issued with a building permit, can direct you as to the steps required. (Even if the work your performing, such as painting, doesn't require a permit, you're still responsible for preventing run-off.)
Known as Best Management Practices or BMP's, these measures are required by both state and local law. Storm drain polluters may be liable for fines of $10,000 or more per day.
Please help us keep our creeks and the Bay pollution-free. If you need more information, please contact Public Works Engineering at 510-981-981-7449.
