Code Enforcement
Enhancing Berkeley's Quality of Life

The goal of the code enforcement unit is to provide a clean and safe environment for all Berkeley residents, workers and visitors. In general, the police and fire departments handle life and safety issues that are serious and urgent, while code enforcement is responsible for the enforcement of administrative violations. This work is often done in conjunction with other City departments and includes:

  • Land Use
  • Graffiti
  • Business Violations
  • Abandoned Vehicles
  • Illegal Dumping
  • Front Lawn Parking
  • Property Maintenance
  • Storm Water
  • Illegal Units and Accessory Uses
  • Signs

Some violations can also be enforced directly by other departments, for example:

Please give us as much information as possible, but remember that because of the high number of requests that we receive, we can not respond to every individual request for service.
