On March 29, 2016 the City Council voted to accept changes to the Civic Arts Grant Program as put forth by the Civic Arts Commission and the City Manager’s Office. Here is a summary of the changes in place for the 2016 program:

1. A one-year cycle, as opposed to a 2-year cycle.

2. New funding categories to ensure properly competitive grant pools:
      a. Organizations with a 3-year average budget of $500,000 and above (applicants may request up to $12,000)
      b. Organizations with a budget under $500,000 (applicants may request up to $8,000)
      c. Individual Artists ($3,000 set grant amount)

3. Online Application via Submittable. (Applicants must first make an account.) Each category above has its own application. Applicants complete the form for the category they fall under. Consult these instructions on how to use the online application platform. Applications have been updated from last year; most of the changes are in the narrative and budget section (CA Data Project information is no longer required).

4. No formula. The Grant Panel previously employed a formula to determine allocation amounts to grantees. The Grant Panel now has more flexibility in allocating. You can see the application review criteria in the Grant Guidelines.

5. Awards will be contingent on the allocation from the City Council given each year. The current budgeted amount is $239,000 with the possibility of an additional $150,000 to be decided on by Council during the budget process in May. If more funding is added it will be appropriately distributed among grantees.
