CA. Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC) Award

In late 2010, the California Highway Patrol (CHP), the Office of Traffic Safety (OTS) and the CA. Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC) presented Officers Steve Rego #130 and **Darrin Rafferty #117 as well as Sergeant Benjamin Cardoza S-31 with the 2009 California Law Enforcement Challenge (CLEC) Individual Achievement Award. The three members of BPD were part of a group of only 34 individuals selected to receive the coveted award throughout the state. The award honors their outstanding commitment to alcoholic beverage enforcement and contributions to traffic safety.

The City of Berkeley Police Department has received an unprecedented 7 consecutive ABC grants towards alcohol beverage enforcement including underage drinking and liquor store ABC compliance. BPD has become distinguished in the State of California for successful and meaningful enforcement and education. In addition, BPD has become a leader in training members of other city Police and Sheriff's departments who have received their first ABC grant funding.
