Kindergarten Immunization Rates for Berkeley Unified School District

The Berkeley Unified School District (BUSD) and Berkeley Public Health Division (BPHD) recently reviewed vaccination rates for kindergarten students. These rates reflect the percentage of students with complete (Polio, DTaP, MMR, Hepatitis B, and Varicella) and available vaccination records. Statewide, 91% of Kindergarten students are up-to-date with their immunizations. Among Berkeley schools, rates vary from a low of 61% to a high of 98%.  Lower immunization rates mean higher risk of vaccine-preventable illness.

All children entering transitional kindergarten after their 4th birthday should be fully immunized.

Residents of Berkeley who have private health insurance (i.e. Kaiser, MediCal, Blue Cross Managed Care, etc.) should check with their child's regular health care provider to make sure that he/she is up to date on their childhood vaccinations.
