A special election will be held on March 7, 2017 to fill the vacancy for City Council District 4.  This election will be conducted by vote-by-mail only. All registered voters in District 4 will receive a ballot in the mail.  The vote-by-mail period opens on February 6, 2017.  The ballot will include a return envelope that is postage-paid; no additional postage will be needed to mail back a ballot. To be counted, ballots must be postmarked on or before Election Day. Ballots postmarked on the Election Day can be received by the Registrar of Voters up to three days after Election Day.  

Voters may also return their ballot in person in three ways:  

  • The permanent ballot drop box in front of Berkeley City Hall,  2180 Milvia Street, roughly the center of District 4. It is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
  • The Registrar of Voters office, 1225 Fallon Street, Rm. G-1, Oakland, CA 94612-4283  Map / Directions. 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM Monday through Friday. Election Day hours are 7:00 AM to 8:00 PM
  • On Election Day, a voting center will be open from 7:00 a.m. - 8:00 p.m. on the first floor of the Berkeley Civic Center Building at 2180 Milvia Street. At the voting center, an accessible touchscreen/audio voting machine will be available for voters with visual, auditory, or motor skill limitations.  Any voter may drop their voted ballot in the signed return envelope at the voting center.
  • In addition to the Election Day voting center, voters with visual, auditory, or motor skill limitations may cast their vote on an accessible touchscreen/audio voting machine at the Registrar of Voters office starting on Monday, February 6th 2017 and ending on Election Day Tuesday, March 7th, 2017.

In order to vote in the March 7, 2017 Special Election for District 4, you must register with the Registrar of Voters by Monday, February 20, 2017.  You may obtain a voter registration form at the Public Library, City Hall (2180 Milvia), Department of Motor Vehicles, the Registrar of Voters, or online at  http://www.acgov.org/rov/registration.htm
