Welcome to the website of Mayor Tom Bates at the City of Berkeley, CA.
Berkeley - we’re an innovative city with economic vitality, healthy and safe neighborhoods, a clean and green environment, and we are the number one teen-healthy city in the state. We are nationally recognized as an environmental, solar, and green city with the number one public university in the country. To green our economy and reduce greenhouse gas emissions in and around our community, I co-founded the East Bay Green Corridor Partnership with the mayors of Oakland, Emeryville and Richmond, the Chancellor of the University of California, Berkeley, and the Director of the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory. We work closely with community partners, public agencies, the business community, neighboring cities and through my representation on planning bodies such as Metropolitan Transportation Commission (MTC), Bay Conservation Development Commission (BCDC), and the Bay Area Air Quality Management District (BAAQMD) to meet our goals.
What's New: Berkeley Awarded Innovation Grant - The City of Berkeley has been awarded a $2 million "Innovation Grant" to implement a pilot program for dynamic pricing of parking spaces in the Southside and Elmwood districts, to manage non-resident parking in adjacent residential neighborhoods by enhancing parking enforcement, and to help reduce the number of auto trips in the city by implementing various transportation demand-management (TDM) strategies.
