Our goal is to provide quality parks, recreation and waterfront facilities. The department is committed to administering excellent recreation programs at our community centers, camps, marina and parks; continuing to develop new programs that fulfill the City's 2020 Vision, maintaining our trees and municipal urban forest, landscaping and infrastructure; and developing Capital Projects with community input to improve and enhance resident's park and facility experience.
Measure T1 $100 Million to Improve Existing City Infrastructure & Facilities - On Tuesday, November 8, 2016 Berkeley voters passed Measure T1 with an 86.5% approval. This measure authorizes the City to sell $100 million of General Obligation Bonds (GO Bonds) to repair, renovate, replace, or reconstruct the City’s aging infrastructure and facilities, including sidewalks, storm drains, parks, streets, senior and recreation centers, and other important City facilities and buildings. Parks, Recreation & Waterfront (PRW) Capital Improvement Program (CIP) - Recurring capital funding from (Parks Tax, General Fund, Marina Funds, Camps Fund) is used to address our most critical unfunded needs and allows selected projects in our City parks to be accomplished annually. These funds along with Measure WW and other grants sources, provides funding for the restoration and improvements of parks and recreation facilities. These improvements include safety and accessibility; replacing deteriorated play equipment; repairing or replacing site furnishings; improvements to existing playing fields for increased youth sports opportunities and basic infrastructure improvements including rehabilitation of sports courts, lighting, eroding walkways and irrigation renovations. Community Meeting on Turf Replacement at Tom Bates Regional Sports Complex - Come join the discussion at a community meeting on Saturday, January 28, 2017 at 10:00 am, at Frances Albrier Community Center, 2800 Park Street and provide your input on the infill material alternatives for this Artificial Turf Replacement Project. City staff will evaluate the input gathered from this meeting to identify a number of safe infill materials. Public Notice - Berkeley Bay Trail Extension Project - Phase 3 - The City of Berkeley proposes to construct an approximately 625-foot long multi-purpose non-motorized trail and related features. The project will connect to and extend an existing segment of the San Francisco Bay Trail that provides an off-street pedestrian and bicycle link from the populated sections of the City of Berkeley to the Berkeley Marina.
