James Kenney Features
The James Kenney Community Center features space that can be reserved and rented by community members, including:

• Basketball court and gym (can seat 500 people)  
• Arts and crafts room suitable for 40 people
• Small conference room for groups of 15 to 20 persons  
• Community room for gatherings of up to 100 people
• Weight room adequate for 20 people  
• Restrooms with showers and lockers 
• Kitchen with a commercial stove
• Outdoor picnic and recreational space
• Elevator

James Kenney Park has two tennis courts, outdoor basketball courts, a softball field, and picnic areas.   

Facility Rentals
James Kenney Community Center is available to rent for birthday parties, baby showers, conferences, seminars, community meetings, sports tournaments, special classes, and other gatherings. For more information about renting space at James Kenney or if you want to know more about the facility and its programs, please phone (510) 981-6650.

Therapeutic Recreation Program
The City of Berkeley Therapeutic Recreation Program provides support for community members of all abilities to actively participate in quality recreation programs. We offer Inclusive Services, which support youth with special needs, ages 5-12 at James Kenney Community Center. Youth have the opportunity to enhance social, physical and behavioral skills in groups with their same-aged peers, while participating in fun and exciting daily activities. 

In order to best serve our program participants, an intake is required prior to participation in the program. For more information regarding the Therapeutic Recreation Program or to schedule an intake, please call 981-5147.

Refund Policy
All requests for refunds must be directed to the Recreation and Youth Services Manager, 1947 Center Street, Berkeley, CA. 94704. The original receipt must be submitted with a written request for a refund. The request must state the reason for the refund, and the date, time and location of the program. The Recreation and Youth Services Manager will render a decision to either: 1) refund the fee; 2) pro rate the fee; or 3) deny the request. 

No refunds or credit will be granted without 7 days notice prior to start of class. The City will deduct 25% of the amount paid from the Refund to cover administrative expenses, or a minimum $10.00 service charge. A refund will be granted for an individual or family if a doctor’s certificate is provided along with the written request for the refund.

Scholarship Information
Scholarships are available provided applicant meets eligibility and verification requirements. You must submit an application and documentation at the time of registration. Scholarship applications can be obtained at any of the Community Centers or at Recreation Administration, and on the website.
