Comments From The Public:  A total of 30 minutes is scheduled. Each speaker is limited to a maximum of 3 minutes.  Comments during special meetings must address only items listed on the agenda.  If there are not 30 minutes of public comment, the Council will proceed with the agenda.

1.         Earthquake Preparedness

            From:  Disaster Council

Recommendation:  a) Form a partnership with Berkeley Unified School District for disaster preparedness, with focus on the following three areas: curriculum, containers/supplies, and planning/training; b) Hire a full-time planner/organizer to work on strategic planning and implementation of care and shelter issues, and test elements of the City’s shelter plan; c) Hire a neighborhood coordinator, a full-time trainer, and office support staff to expand outreach and coordination of the CERT program to target neglected areas of the City; d) Include larger neighborhood associations in disaster planning, and organize follow-up drills, exercises, and other projects (such as collecting and storing medical supplies, food, tools, etc.) for these groups; and e) Charge the Disaster Council with the oversight of Measure Q.
