BERKELEY HOUSING AUTHORITY
PUBLIC HEARING

Recommendation: The Berkeley Housing Authority (BHA) is proposing adoption of its five-year agency plan (covering Fiscal Years 2000-2004) and annual agency plan for Fiscal Year 2000.  The Plans outline the BHA goals and objectives over the next five years for its Section 8 and Public Housing Programs.  Public Housing authorities are required to adopt  these plans as mandated by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.

The draft plans were published on July 18, 2000 which commenced a 45-day public comment period in which the public has the opportunity to comment on the plan contents.  Copies of these plans are available for review during normal business hours at the following locations: 1901 Fairview Street, Berkeley (Berkeley Housing Authority), 2201 Dwight Way (Berkeley Housing Department), 2121 Allston Way (Berkeley Central Library), and 1900 Addison Street (City Clerk’s Office).  

The mission of the BHA is to assist low to moderate–income residents to secure and maintain high quality affordable housing. In pursuit of this mission, the 5-year and annual plans cover the following operational and administrative issues:

Housing Needs
Financial Resources
Policies on Eligibility, Selection and Admissions
Rent Determination
Capital Improvement Needs
Homeownership
Community Service and Self-Sufficiency
Crime and Safety
Comments of the Resident Advisory Board

Anyone wishing to speak at the public hearing may receive a speaker card from the City Clerk at the start of the Authority meeting up until the closure of the public hearing.

Written comments should be mailed or delivered directly to the City Clerk, 1900 Addison Street, Berkeley, CA 94704, in order to ensure delivery to all Authority Members and inclusion in the agenda packet.  Comments received not later than 12:00 noon, Monday, September 11, 2000, will be included in Authority agenda packets.  Comments received thereafter will be submitted to the Authority as supplemental communications prior to the meeting.   For further information, call Sherry M.
