July 16, 2001 Public Hearing:

  1. ZONING BOARD ADJUSTMENTS DECISION,
    TEMPLE BETH EL PROJECT, 1301 OXFORD STREET

Note:  Special Meeting Location and Time:

This meeting will be held at the North Berkeley Senior Center, 1901 Hearst Street, and is scheduled to start at 5:30 p.m.   The hearings may be continued to either the Council meeting of July 17, 2001 and/or a Special Meeting on Thursday, July 19th, at 6:00 p.m. in the Council Chamber.  If you have questions, please do not hesitate to contact the City Clerk Department, 510-981-6900.   

The City Council has continued the public hearing regarding the decision of the Zoning Adjustments Board to approve Use Permit 99-10000079 for the Temple Beth El Project located at 1301 Oxford Street, to:  1) construct and operate a Religious Assembly use; 2) permit an average height up to 35 feet where a maximum average height limit of 28 feet is allowed; and 3) allow demolition of two non-residential buildings.

 

The City Council will hear from those person who have not spoken at the public hearing on either June 5th or June 26th.  The City Clerk has maintained a list of speakers who spoke as well as a list in the order that people will be called to speak if a person already submitted a speaker card on either June 5th or June 26th. Anyone who has completed a speaker card at either of these meetings and was not yet called on to speak, need not complete a new speaker card.  Anyone who wishes to speak that has not yet filled out a speaker card may obtain one from City Clerk staff at the meeting starting at 5:30 p.m.

 

Environmental Determination:

 

The Zoning Adjustments Board certified the Final Environmental Impact Report for the Congregation Beth El Project on December 14, 2000.  That determination is subject to a hearing currently pending before the City Council along with the Zoning Adjustments Board's decision to grant permits to construct the project.
