The City Council will hold a public hearing to consider a Use Permit for
the Congregation Beth El Synagogue and School located at 1301 Oxford
Street to allow automobile parking within 20 feet of the property
lines abutting Oxford and Spruce Streets as required by Berkeley
Municipal Code (BMC) Section 23D.12.080 (Site Location and Screening
of Parking Spaces and Driveways).
The additional Use
Permit is needed because of proposed revisions to the site plan
resulting from the mediation process.
The Council has closed the public hearing on the proposed
Use Permits under B.M.C. Sections 23D.16.030, 23D.16.070C, and
23C.08.050.A and B to construct and operate a Religious Assembly Use,
permit a portion of the building to have an average height up to 35
feet, and to allow demolition of two non-residential buildings.
The Council has also closed the public hearing on the proposed
permit under B.M.C. Section 3.24.300.C (Landmarks Preservation
Ordinance) to alter a City Landmark by construction of the proposed
building and related facilities for operation of a Religious Assembly
Use. For further
