DRAFT GENERAL PLAN AND FINAL ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT REPORT

Berkeley City Council is holding public hearings on the Draft General Plan and
Final Environmental Impact Report on October 30, 2001 and November 6, 2001.
Members of the public who wish to address the City Council are encouraged to
attend one of the two hearings.
The Berkeley Draft General
Plan is a comprehensive, long-range and internally consistent set of goals,
objectives, policies and actions for the physical development and preservation
of Berkeley. The General Plan is a statement of community priorities and values
to be used to guide public decision-making by the Berkeley City Council, Boards
and Commissions, and City staff. The General Plan includes seven elements
required by State law: Land Use, Transportation, Housing, Safety, Open Space,
Noise, and Conservation. The noise and conservation elements are covered in the
Environmental Management Element. The Plan also includes three optional
elements: Economic Development and Employment, Urban Design and Preservation,
and Citizen Participation.
